What is airsoft?
Airsoft is a team skirmish sport where players use realistic replica guns that fire small 6mm plastic BBs. Think of it as a grown-up game of hide and seek crossed with capture the flag, played out across woodland, buildings and purpose-built game zones. Games run to objectives: attack and defend, escort a VIP, capture a position, or simply last man standing. It is honesty based, which means when a BB hits you, you call yourself out and head back to respawn.
It is hugely popular in the UK, played by everyone from teenagers to people in their sixties, and you absolutely do not need to be ex-military or super fit to enjoy it. The most important thing you bring is a good attitude.
What actually happens on a game day
A typical day at The Kingdom, our site near Stoke-on-Trent, runs roughly like this:
- Arrival and registration. You sign in, sort out any hire kit, and get your wristband.
- Chrono and safety brief. Guns are checked for power on a chronograph, and marshals run through the rules. This is the most important part of the day, so listen in.
- Game on. You play a series of games through the morning, break for lunch, then carry on through the afternoon. Marshals are on the field at all times.
- Pack down. The day usually winds up mid to late afternoon.

Do you need your own kit?
No. This is the single biggest myth that puts people off. Every good UK site, including ours, offers hire packages that include a gun, eye protection and BBs, so you can turn up with nothing and play a full day. What does airsoft cost?
Airsoft is one of the better value action sports in the UK. As a rough guide for a full day:
- Entry: commonly around 20 to 35 pounds for a full day, depending on the site and game.
- Hire kit: typically 10 to 25 pounds for a gun, mask and starter BBs.
- BBs and gas: a bag of BBs for the day is usually under 10 pounds.
